Description
A classic, easy-to-make mashed sweet potato recipe, perfect as a holiday side dish or for a simple weeknight meal. Naturally sweet, creamy, and full of flavor.
Ingredients
3 to 4 pounds of sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
4 tablespoons of unsalted butter
½ cup of milk (whole or 2%), warmed
1 teaspoon of salt
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Boil the Potatoes: Place the cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot. Cover with cold, salted water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15-25 minutes, until fork-tender.
2. Drain and Dry: Drain the potatoes well in a colander. Return the hot potatoes to the empty pot and let them sit for a minute so that any excess moisture can evaporate.
3. Mash: Mash the potatoes with a potato masher or an electric beater until you reach the desired consistency.
4. Combine the Ingredients: Gradually add the melted butter and warmed milk while mixing. Stir in the salt and pepper.
5. Serve: Taste and adjust the seasoning. Transfer to a serving bowl, top with an extra pat of butter, and serve immediately.
Notes
Perfect for holidays, weeknight dinners, or as a side for roasted meats. Adjust milk for creamier texture.
