  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (115 grams)
  • 2/3 cup milk (160 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced (300 grams)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (50 grams)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (240 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in milk and vanilla until a soft dough forms.
  5. Drop dough onto a baking sheet in 6 portions.
  6. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Mix strawberries with sugar and let sit for at least 20 minutes.
  8. Whip cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  9. Split shortcakes, fill with strawberries and whipped cream, and serve immediately.
